...Tavi-the-Jester's phantom lands still rise
And fade to empty sea before men's eyes.
Lest we grow sick at heart from hope deferred
May we, too, hear the call that Maui heard.

James Norman Hall (from The Far Lands)

The surface of the Earth is the shore of the cosmic ocean. ...The ocean calls.

Carl Sagan

The thing's hollow -- it goes on forever -- and -- oh my God! -- it's full of stars!.

David Bowman (Arthur C. Clarke, 2001: A Space Odyssey)

Across the Sea of Stars: Space Science

...It is utterly absurd to say that any men from this side of the world could sail across the immense tract of the ocean, reach the far side, and then people it with men....
Saint Augustine (The City of God, 16.9)

To travel is of first, second, and third importance to those who desire to originate just and comprehensive views concerning the structure of our globe.
